Description A low lying plant, often reaching only 1-2ft, but occasionlly 6ft. It is a perennial, but can be grown as an annual. Plant and fruits resemble its relatives the ground cherry and chinese lantern. Hardiness Hardy to temperatures in the mid 30’s (F), but can be grown pretty much anywhere as an annual. Growing Environment Does well in warm and/or arid climates, although water should be provided through long dry spells. Can be grown in a container. Propagation By seeds. Germination Info Germination requirements of ashwagandha are similar to peppers and tomatoes. Plant seeds approximately 1/4-1/2″ deep in moist, well drained potting soil. Soil temperature must be kept at 75-90F for proper germination. Cool soil, particularly at night can inhibit or significantly delay germination. To keep soil temperature warm, start seeds indoors, in a greenhouse and/or use a seed starting heat mat. Keep soil moderately moist, though not overly, dripping wet. Water soil when the soil surface just begins to dry. Allow proper air circulation for containers. Germination usually takes a few weeks.
